Sioux Center Sweeps Sheldon

warriors logoSheldon Iowa — Sioux Center swept a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader at Sheldon Friday night. The girls led at all the breaks on the way to a 56-25 win. On the boys side Sioux Center came from behind in the fourth quarter to claim the win 52-49.

In the girls game the Warriors took a 22-6 first quarter lead and were up 39-15 at the half. Sioux Center had three players in double figures. Lindi Fritz and Jordyn Van Maanen hit for 12 points each while Clare Kortlever added another 10. Sheldon was led by Sydney Iedema with an 8 point night.

With the win 6th ranked Sioux Center improves to 15-3 on the year and 13-2 in the conference. Sheldon moves to 3-15 on the year and 2-13 in the Siouxland.

 

In the boys game a 13 point fourth quarter from Marcus Winterfeld led the Warriors to a come from behind 52-49 win. Sioux Center had taken their first lead of the game in the third quarter only to see the Orabs move in front 35-30 at the end of the third quarter. It was a sign of things to come for the Warriors as Winterfeld drained a three as time expired to keep Sioux Center within 5 going into the fourth quarter. Winterfeld scored  13 of his game high 19 points in the final quarter to lead the come back. Tyus Arends joined him in double figures with 10 points.

Sheldon was led by Devon Johnson who hit for a trio of three on route to a 13 point night. Jaden Kleinhesselink was next with 9 points for the Orabs.

With the win Sioux Center is 12-5 on the year and 10-4 in the conference. Sheldon falls to 8-9 for the year and 8-6 in the Siouxland.

Up next for the Orabs will be a Tuesday trip to West Lyon. The Warriors will be at Rock Valley.
