Sioux Center Takes Two From Sheldon

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs would go on the road to take on the Sioux Center Warriors and come on short in both games of a Siouxland Conference doubleheader. The girls would fall 72-56 and the boys lost 60-48.

The girls game stared out fast paced and the Orabs would lead 16-15 after one quarter placing six players in the score book. The Warriors game plan was executed to perfection in the second quarter outscoring the Orabs 24-10 and would lead 39-25 behind 10 points apiece in the quarter from Hope Arends and Jacie Vander Waal going into halftime. The third quarter was played pretty evenly but the Warriors still led 49-37 going into the fourth quarter. The Orabs would cut into the Warriors lead narrowing the score to 59-51 with 4:27 left in the contest. Sioux Center stepped up the defensive pressure and pull away for a 72-56 win.

The Warriors had two players in double figures led by a game high 24 from Hope Arends and 23 from Jacie Vander Waal. The Orabs put four players in Double figures led by Maliah Kleinhesselink with 16, 11 points apiece form Claire Johnson and Peyton Lode and Brooklyn Grady would drop in 10.

The Warriors improved to 4-4 on the season and in the conference and the Orabs would fall to 1-8 overall and 1-7 in the Siouxland.

The boys game was evenly matched out of the gate but the Warriors ended the quarter on a 5-0 run and would lead 17-12 after one. The second quarter started out where it left off for Sioux Center and would lead 22-12 prompting Sheldon to take a timeout. The Orabs would score the next ten points to tie the game at 22 and would end even at 24-24 at half. The Orabs came out in the third quarter as the aggressor and start the quarter on a 7-0 run and lead 39-34 after three quarters. Sioux Center came out on fire in the fourth and went on 15-3 run to start the quarter and led 49-42 with 4:50 left in the game. The Warriors kept the pressure on and would pull away with a 60-48 victory.

The Warriors put two players in double figures led by a game high 20 points from Kylar Fritz and Miles Schuiteman with 11 point off the bench and all in the second half. The Orabs had 13 points each from Kaleb Ackerman and Tye Sudbeck and Shane Brouwer added 12 points in the contest.

The Warriors improved to 2-6 in the conference and overall and Sheldon would fall to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the Siouxland as both teams head into Christmas break.
