Spirit Lake Ends Orabs Football Season in Second Round of The Football Playoffs

Date posted - October 29, 2012

The 5th ranked Spirit Lake Indians rolled to a 43-7 second round playoff win over Sheldon Monday night in Spirit Lake. The Indians improve to 10-1 while the Orabs close the year at 8-3.

Spirit Lake opened the scoring late in the first quarter as Quarterback Paul Brown found Bryson McCabe for a 39 yard touchdown pass. Brett Cochran Bray added the extra point to put the Indians in front 7-0.

A four touchdown second quarter would effectively put the game away. Brown scored on a 10 yard run, Cody Poock went in from 2 yards out and McCabe scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns on a 26 yard scamper. Cochran Bray was good on 4-of-4 extra point kicks.

With 1:53 left in the half the Indians defense got into the act recovering a fumble and returning it for a score to make it 36-0 at the half.

Early in the third quarter McCabe scored on a 95 yard run as Spirit Lake went up 43-0. Sheldon got on the board as the defense recovered a fumble at the Spirit Lake 15 yard line. Logan Otis scored on a 15 yard run with 7:43 to play in the ballgame. Trevor Mayer added the extra point and the final would be 43-7.

Next up for Spirit Lake is a rematch with Boyden Hull Rock Valley in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs on Friday in Hull. The Nighthawks claimed a mid season non district game that was also played at Hesla Field in Hull.
