Spirit Lake Girls end Sioux Center’s Season

BasketballSheldon Iowa — The Spirit Lake Indians are State Tournament bound following a 69-55 win over Sioux Center Saturday night. The Class 3A Region 1 Championship was decided at the Sheldon High School Gym.

The Indians led at all the breaks. They were up 16-12 at the end of the first quarter following a three at the buzzer by Emma Dau. At the half the lead was up to 32-24 as Spirit Lake hit 6 of their 10 three-pointers of the ball game in the first half. At the end of the third quarter the Indians led 49-38 as went on to win it 69-55.

Sioux Center had one player in double figures getting a game high 20 from Jill Vander Plaats. Lexi Toering and Madison Beaver had 9 points each.

Spirit Lake had three players in double figures led by Bailee Newman with 19 points. Joie Veldman hit for 17 with Emma Dau netting 12.

The 11th ranked Spirit Lake Indians will take an 18-6 record into the State Girls Basketball Tournament while 3rd ranked Sioux Center ends the year with just their third loss against 21 wins on the season.
