The 2019 Red Raider Volleyball Classic is being held this weekend, August 23-24, at the Bultman Center and Rowenhorst Student Center (RSC) on the campus of Northwestern College. NWC has served as the host of the Classic, one of the top early season NAIA volleyball events, every fall since 1995.
Now in its 25th year of existence, the 2019 Classic features three teams recognized in the NAIA Preseason Coaches’ poll; Northwestern-7, Dordt-11 and Corban-19.
Three of the seven teams in this year’s field qualified for the 2018 NAIA National Championship; all three advancing out of pool play. Both Northwestern and Corban had their season end in the round of 16; Dordt advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to national runner-up Columbia (Mo.).
Four different conferences are represented in this year’s field, led by the Great Plains Athletic Conference with four. The Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC), Cascade Collegiate (CCC) and Sooner Athletic (SAC) all have one team in the field.
