Northwest Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs and a number of other teams opened the outdoor track season Thursday. The Orab boys were at Spirit Lake while the girls were at Spencer. There was golf and soccer on the schedule as well.

Top five finishes were in abundance for the Orabs in their first outdoor meet of the season. Top five finishes for the Orabs came in the 400 Meter Dash. Bryanth Avila was 4th in 57.78. The winning time by Caleb Oolman of Spirit Lake was 56.19. Brendan Cain was 5th in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:17.00. The winning time by Jake Conlon of Gt-Ra was 2:03.56. Dawson Jacobsma was 4th in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:56.21. Riley Bauer of North Union was first at 4:56.21. Jacobsma was second in the 3200 meters in 10:33.93. Taylor Myers of E-LC had the winning time at 10:27.10. Ben Jongewaard was second in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.16. Josef Smith of West Hancock had the winning time at 15.16. Jongewaard was 5th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.02. Austin Chase of Algona was the winning in 57.19.

In the relay events Sheldon was second in the 4×400 Meter Relay in 3:39.92. Team members included Ben Jongewaard, Steven Van Meeteren, Dakota Johannes and Jaden Kleinhesselink. Okoboji had the winning time at 3:39.65. Sheldon won the 4×800 in a time of 8:37.67. Team members included Jaden Kleinhesselink, Eric Heibult, Brendan Cain and Steven Van Meeteren. Spirit Lake was second in 9:02.84. The Orabs were second in the 4×100 with a time of 1:03.57. Team members included Austin Kavanagh, Ben Jongewaard, Jaden Kleinhesselink and Quinten Wynia. West Hancock won it in 1:03.20.

In the field events Trey Iedema was 5th in the high jump at 5-06.25. Zach Foxhoven of Emmetsburg won it at 6-01.00. Cody Vaselaar was 5th in the long jump at 19-04.75. MaCoy Yeakel of West Hancock won it with a jump of 21-07.50. Ryan Van Marel was second in the shot put with a toss of 46-01.50. Dominick Etherington of Algona had the winning toss at 60-01.00. Van Marel won the discus with a toss of 156-08. Etherington was second at 155-04

GPAC Baseball
Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball leader Doane was shut out by Dordt pitcher Luke Drooger on two hits and dropped the second game of a college baseball twin bill 1-0 at Open Space Park Thursday. Doane took the opener 9-1. Drooger struck out five and walked two on his way to the win. Dordt is 7-17 overall and 4-10 in the GPAC.
