Northwest Iowa — State cross country qualifying meets were held Thursday October 18th. The Sheldon Orabs were at a 2A qualifier in Garner. The Orabs Eric Heibult was second in a time of 16:42.33. The winning time was 16:09.67.
Most area 2A runners were at Orange City hosted by Unity. In that qualifier Sioux Center won the team title with 46 team points followed by George Little Rock at 64. Unity was third at 98. Joe Anderson of the Mustangs won the event in 16:32.9. The second place time was 16:55.5. 1A runners were hosted by West Sioux.Will Roder of Gehlen was the individual winner at 17:04.45. Grant Brouwer of Sibley Ocheyedan was third at 17:37.25. Sibley Ocheyedan won the team title with 68 points. Trinity was third at 150. 3A runners were hosted by Spencer. Sergeant Bluff Luton won the team title with 76 points. MOC Floyd Valley was third at 103.
Some highlights on the girls side. In 2A at the Unity meet Woodbury Central Kingsley Pierson won the team title at 33 followed by Unity at 76. Whitney Minderhoud of Western was second individually with a time of 20:55.5. The first place time was 20:50.6.
