The Nighthawks Beat Crosstown Rivals

Boyden Hull Rock Valley Nighthawks toppled the Western Christian Wolfpack 48-12 in Hull Friday night.

Western Christian opened the game with two costly fumbles giving the Nighthawks great field position and the first 13 points. After the first turnover, Miguel Alvarado finished the 43 yard drive with a 1 yard touchdown run. The second fumble was created by Dallas Rozeboom when he broke into the backfield unscathed and forced the fumble. The Nighthawks recovered on the 14 yard line and scored when Rozeboom punched it in a few plays later.

The first quarter barrage of points didn’t end there however, as the Nighthawks would score two more touchdowns. After forcing a 3 and out by the Wolfpack, Brandt Van Roekel scored on a 47 yard quarterback scramble making the score 20-0. Van Roekel wasn’t finished as he returned a punt following a Western Christian 3 and out 38 yards down to the 15 yard line. Dallas Rozeboom punched his second ticket to the endzone making the score 27-0 with 1:46 left in the first quarter.

Western Christian answered after Jeffery Granstra recovered a Nighthawk fumble at the 48 yard line. The offense than capitalized on a 3:34 second drive capped by an 18 yard Dan Van Maanen TD pass to Ethan Fenchel to make the score 27-6 after the missed extra point.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley than went on a 2:51 drive of there own scoring on a 1 yard TD run by Dallas Rozeboom with 9 seconds left in the first half. The score after Western Christian ran out the first half clock was 34-6. The Nighthawks took the 2nd half kickoff and scored on the first drive. Led by the rushing attack, Boyden Hull Rock Valley took 4:30 of clock time scoring on a Miguel Alvarado 6 yard touchdown run. Western Christian and Boyden Hull Rock Valley traded scores after that point to make the final score 48-12.

The touchdowns were scored by Logan Steins of BHRV (24 yard TD run) and a long scoring run of 95 yards by Drew Van Sloten of Western Christian. Next week the Nighthawks (1-0) will face Emmetsburg in Emmetsburg. Western Christian (0-1) will play at Central Lyon George Little Rock.
