The Nighthawks Beat The Knights

The Boyden Hull Rock Valley Nighthawks celebrated homecoming by beating the Unity Christian Knights 49-0 at Hesla Field in Hull Friday night.
The Nighthawks scored early and often on the way to a 28 point first quarter. After forcing a Knight three and out, Andrew Van Ginkel of the Nighthawks returned the Unity Christian punt 37 yards making the score 7-0 with 9:55 left in the first quarter. Boyden Hull Rock Valley added another touchdown on a 20 yard pass from Van Ginkel to Jerod Hansen. The score finished off a 35 yard drive which lasted 51 seconds, and with 7:25 left in the first quarter the score was 14-0 in favor of the Nighthawks. On the next possession, the Nighthawks scored on a 34 yard reversing field run by Andrew Van Ginkel. The score capped a 49 yard drive that lasted 1:25 and made the score 21-0 with 3:46 left in the first quarter. On the next Unity Christian possession, Logan Steins forced a fumble on a strip sack and the Nighthawks recovered on the Unity Christian 5 yard line. The Nighthawks scored a play later when Omar Mejia scored on a 5 yard run.
The second quarter featured two more Nighthawk scores, the first was on an Omar Mejia 9 yard touchdown run. Mejia’s run finished off a 33 yard drive in 1:57. The second Boyden Hull Rock Valley score was on a 57 yard punt return touchdown by Jerod Hansen. The return made the score 42-0 with 9:30 left in the first half and both teams remained with
that score until halftime.
The Nighthawks finished the games scoring when backup quarterback Brady Post found Justin Schmidt on a 22 yard slant pass. The extra point was good, and the Nighthawks led 49-0 at the 2:38 mark of the 3rd quarter.
Next week the Nighthawks will travel to Spirit Lake (3-1, 1-1 in District) and face the Indians. Unity Christian (0-4, 0-2 in District) will host Sioux Center next week at Korver Field in Orange City.
