Three area athletes including a former Sheldon Orab and a pair of Western Christian grads have been named to the GPAC All Conference First Team.
Bret Doorenbos, a 6-2, 255 lb. senior defensive lineman from Boyden has 44 tackles, including seven stops behind the line of scrimmage for losses of 22 yards, and is second on the Mustangs with 2.5 quarterback sacks. The Sheldon graduate also has an interception and a team-high two forced fumbles.
Theo Bartman and Sam Van Ginkel are former Western Christian team mates now at Northwestern. Bartman from Rock Valley earned first team honors for the second straight year after being named honorable mention as a sophomore. The senior led the team in rushing, ranking eighth in the GPAC with 684 yards despite missing two games due to injury. Bartman registered an impressive 4.9 yards per carry and had a four touchdown game in the Red Raiders 38-28 win over then top ranked Morning side. Bartman also caught 33 passes for 422 yards and five touchdowns.
Sam Van Ginkel also from Rock Valley was second among defensive linemen with 24 tackles, including 13 for a loss of 76 yards. The freshman tied for first in the GPAC with 8.5 sacks and recorded an additional five quarterback hurries. He also recovered two fumbles, returning one for a touchdown, and forced another.
