Former Central Lyon George Little Rock and University of South Dakota Football standout Tyler Starr will be taking part in his first NFL training camp beginning this Friday. Starr, a Little Rock native, was the seventh round selection of the Atlanta Falcons in this year’s NFL Draft.
We had a chance to talk with Starr during an appearance in Sheldon earlier this month and asked what it was like walking into the Falcons team facility for the first time for rookie camp and realizing that …. “this is the NFL” .
From there it was time to get to work as an NLF player and the rookie camp was an important step in the process with full team camp opening this Friday.
We asked Tyler about the transition from his college defensive schemes to the pros.
Offensive players often talk about the speed of the game compared to college. It pertains to the defensive side of the ball too.
Athletic ability gets every player drafted. We asked Starr what it would take to separate himself from the other linebackers in camp and earn a roster spot.
Despite his small school background in high school and college now it’s all about taking advantage of opportunities.
Since his signing with the Falcons there has been a lifestyle change as well and with that comes the opportunity to provide substantially for his family.
To get rookies off to a good start the NFL offers a rookie symposium to help players adjust to those sudden changes in lifestyle. Starr found it extremely beneficial.
The NFL has been a goal for Tyler since 6th grade. The key word on the road from Little Rock to Atlanta has been faith. Starr reflected on where the trip has taken him so far.
The Falcons will open their 2014 training camp at team facilities in Flowery Branch Georgia this Friday July 25th.
The Falcons have been selected as the feature team for this year’s edition of “Hard Knocks” on HBO. The program selects one team in the NFL and follows their training camp experience as they get ready for the upcoming season.
