Unity Christian advanced to the 3A Region 1 girl’s basketball finals with a 76-40 home win over Sheldon Wednesday night. In the lower bracket semifinal at Spirit Lake the Indians advanced with a 56-49 win over Humboldt. 6th ranked Unity and 13th ranked Spirit Lake will meet for a trip to State at 7pm on Saturday night at the Sheldon High School Gym.
Unity opened a 25-8 first quarter lead and was up 40-19 at halftime as they rolled to the win. Kassidy DeJong had a game high 24 points including four 3-point buckets and a 6-of-6 performance from the free throw line. Chanda Zomermaand hit 5 threes as part of a 21 point night. Also in double figures was Anna Kiel with 14 points.
Sheldon was led by Krista Bousema who hit a pair of first quarter threes and went 3-of-4 at the line along with a field goal for an 11 point night.
