Unity Cross Country Coach Mark Kauk Honored by IGHSAU

unity logoUnity Christian’s girls cross country and track & field coach Mark Kauk is the 2013 recipient of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Golden Plaque of Distinction Award for cross country.

The IGHSAU Golden Plaque of Distinction Award honors the Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community and the coaching profession.

Mark is finishing his 37th season as the Unity Christian girls cross country coach and has been the Knights’ track and field head coach for 35 seasons. Mark was named the NFHS National Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2012.

Mark has served on the IGHSAU Cross Country and Track & Field Advisory Committees and has been honored by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches as its Coach of the Year several times.

Mark, who has taught at Unity Christian for 37 years, graduated from Dordt in 1976 and received his Masters in Human Performance from Iowa State in 1994.

Mark and his late wife, JoEllen, are the parents of four children; Nathan, Dan, David and Trevor.
