VanDer Werff To Run At Northwestern

Jakob VanDer Werff of Orange City has signed a letter of intent to continue his cross country and track and field careers at Northwestern College next fall.

VanDer Werff has had a standout career running for the MOC-Floyd Valley High School cross country and track and field teams. VanDer Werff qualified for the state cross country meet all four years, finishing 11th as a senior and 22nd as a junior. He was a four-time all-conference selection, placing in the top five his last three years. VanDer Werff placed third overall at the All-State Senior meet and has a personal best of 16:01 in the 5K. In track, VanDer Werff has qualified for state the last two years heading into his final season this spring. He placed 12th at state in the 3200m last spring and earned all-conference honors in multiple events. An academic all-state pick and member of the National Honor Society, VanDer Werff plans to major in education at Northwestern.

“We are excited to have Jakob join our cross country and track and field teams,” commented Northwestern Head Coach Scott Bahrke. “He is a talented distance runner who will add depth to both our teams. Jakob is a great teammate who will push them to get better at each practice and meet. It will be fun to watch Jakob grow as a runner during his career.”
