Village Northwest Unlimited Panthers Win Gold In Des Moines

The Village Northwest Unlimited Panther Softball Team took part in the State Special Olympics Softball Tournament Saturday in Des Moines and returned to Sheldon with the Gold.
Due to rain the tourney was re-bracketed and condensed to 1 game for the participants and Sheldon drew Glenwood. The Panthers posted a 16-5 win with Bob Stewart posting the complete game win on the mound and Cody Meendering leading the offense with a three run homer.
Coach Deb Middle said it was a complete team win with all players on the roster playing well and contributing to the Gold Medal performance.
The team roster includes Scott Wheeler, Mike and Matt Kramer, Cody Meendering, Bob Stewart, John List, Stephanie Landhuis, Matt Petersen, Charles White, Zach Arrick, Abby Paulsen and Keith Krumm.
The Panthers are coached by Deb Middle assisted by Sara Wolthuizen. Staff assistants include Mindy Liechti and Michelle Holtrop.
With a Golf Medal earned at State Competition the focus now turns to the Nationals. Earlier this year the Panthers were invited to represent the state of Iowa in the Special Olympics National Tournament in September at Oklahoma City. The Nationals are set for September 21st through the 23.
