Village Panther Named Iowa Special Olympics Male Athlete of the Year

Keith Krumm of Sheldon and a resident of Village Northwest Unlimited has been named the Iowa Special Olympics Male Athlete of the Year for 2012.
Krumm received the award on Thursday, May 17 during the Iowa Special Olympics Summer Games Opening Ceremonies at the Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University.
Krumm received the award based on his years of participation, passion for the games, respect for coaches and teammates and his enthusiastic personality. Krumm has participated in the Special Olympics program at Village Northwest Unlimited since July of 1976. Krumm participates in a number of Special Olympics events including: Track & Field, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball and Bolwing.
In the past, Krumm also participated in ice skating through the Village Special Olympics program. Krumm’s Special Olympics coach, Deb Middle, commenting about Krumm said, “Keith always takes pride in his team and their effort and encourages everyone to do their best. Keith is the heart of our program and his enthuism is contagious to his teammates and those watching him compete. We are proud of him and his accomplishments as an athlete”.
When asked what it means to him to be named the Iowa Special Olympics Male Athlete of the Year, Krumm said, “It’s good to have the award. It’s an honor. Thanks to my Coach Deb and to have my sisters here. Thanks again”. Krumm is the third Village Northwest Unlimited athlete to receive this honor. Past recipients from the Village have been Les Van Engen and Bob Stewart.
