Village Panthers Successful at Iowa Special Olympics State Competition

Members of the Village Panthers Special Olympics program had the opportunity to compete at the Iowa Special Olympics Summer Games competition held the weekend of May 18 at Iowa State University in Ames. Members of the Village Panthers competed in both individual and group events consisting of Soccer Skills, Track & Field and Bocce Ball. To qualify for the state competition individuals and teams had to qualify based on their placement during the state qualifying event held in Sioux Center on April 21, 2012.
The following individuals placed in the Soccer Skills competition:
1st Place – Darcy Espey & Brad Friedland
2nd Place – Zach Arrick, Brian Post & Les Van Engen
3rd Place – Austin Buurman & Justin Groen
4th Place – Jill Smith, Matt Stoll & Chad Wassenaar
Individuals competing in the Track & Field events achieved the following results:
30 Meter Straight Wheelchair Race – Eric Graves 2nd Place
30 Meter Slalom Wheelchair Race – Roger Vogel 2nd Place, Eric Graves 3rd Place & Meagan Bonestroo Participation Ribbon
100 Meter Dash – John List 6th Place
50 Meter Dash – Zach Arrick 1st Place, Keith Krumm 1st Place
Mini Turbo Javelin Throw – Stephanie Landhuis 1st Place & Bob Stewart 1st Place
Running Long Jump – Scott Wheeler 1st Place
Standing Long Jump – Mike Kramer 5th Place
Softball Throw – Abby Paulsen 1st Place & Austin Buurman 6th Place
Standing Long Jump – Abby Paulsen 1st Place
Shot Put – Mike Kramer 4th Place
This is the first year Village Northwest participated in Bocce Ball and consisted of the following team members: Abby Paulsen, Bob Stewart, Matt Kramer, Mike Kramer, and Scott Wheeler. They secured 3rd Place overall.
