Warriors and Orabs Split Conference Doubleheader

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs and Sioux Center Warriors split a Siouxland Conference doubleheader Tuesday night at the O-Rena. The Warriors took the girls game 72-36, and the boys game went to Sheldon 70-63.

The Sheldon Orabs were down early in the first quarter 11-5, but then went on an 11-0 run to finish the opening quarter leading 16-11. Sioux Center then took the lead at intermission 28-23. Alexis Toering of the Sioux Center had seventeen first half points. Sioux Center then took control in the second half. After three the Warriors led 49-31, and went on to win 74-36

Sioux Center got a game high twenty-seven points from Alexis Toering, and Victoria Rensink added seventeen. Sheldon got a team high eight points from Kacey Kamphoff.

Sioux Center improves to 12-2 on the year, 11-0 in the Siouxland. Sheldon falls to 3-12 on the season, 2-10 in the conference.

The first quarter of the boys game was a defensive battle to start. Sioux Center went on a 5-0 run to start the game, then Sheldon went on a 5-0 run to tie things up with a Kyle Boerhave two-handed jam, but Sioux Center led 11-7 after one. Sheldon started the second quarter with a 12-0 run and at the break led 27-22. Sioux Center started third with a 5-0 run, and both teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter. Sheldon took a 49-44 lead into the final quarter. Sioux Center started the fourth with an 8-0 run, and both teams continued to trade baskets and the lead. Sheldon had a two point lead with a minute to go, and was able to ice the game from the charity stripe for the 70-63 win.

Sheldon had three players in double figures. Kyle Boerhave had a game high twenty-three, Jaden Kleinhesselink added seventeen, and Tyler Johnson had fourteen points. Sioux Center had two players in double figures. Caden Bleeker had a team high twenty-two points, and Tyus Arends added nineteen.

Sheldon improves to 13-1 on the year, and 10-1 in the Siouxland. Sioux Center falls to 10-3 on the year, and 10-1 in the conference. 

Up next for the Orabs is a road contest to Rock Valley Friday night. Sioux Center is on the road at Unity Christian on Thursday.
