Hull, Iowa — The Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors defeated the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks 34-14 Friday night at AR Hesla Field in Hull.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton started hot on the first three drives of the game scoring 20 points in the first quarter. The opening possession for the Warriors contained a 10 play 74 yard drive scoring in 4:32. The Warriors scored on that drive when Matt George fumbled into the end zone and was recovered by Aaron Sader. They added to that lead on the following possession when Matt George ran it in from 14 yards. On the third straight possession in the first quarter the Warriors scored on an 18 yard QB keeper with Jacob Shultz. All three scores vaulted the Warriors to a 20-0 lead.
The score would stay the same through halftime until the Nighthawks were able to score early in the 3rd quarter. Brady Post found Kobe Lutjens for an 8 yard fade. Post’s pass finished off a 7 play 69 yard drive for the Nighthawks and close within 13 points at 20-7.
The Warriors would answer with 14 unanswered points. The first Warriors answer came on a 61 yard screen pass to Chris Kroll, the Warriors extended their lead to 27-7 after that play with just under 4 minutes to go in the third. On their following possession Shultz found Kroll again for a 7 yard touchdown pass. Both of those drives were only 4 plays, the first was 76 yards, and the second was 80.
The Nighthawks were able to get a late score to make the final score 34-14 when Ashton Kooiker ran in a 10 yard touchdown run.
The Nighthawks fall to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the district, they will host Central Lyon/George-Little Rock in a non-district contest in Rock Valley next week. Sergeant Bluff-Luton improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the district and will host Bishop Heelan Catholic at home.
