Warriors Sweep Orabs in Sioux Center

warriors logoSioux Center, Iowa — Sioux Center swept a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader against Sheldon Tuesday night in Sioux Center. The Orab girls fell 67-27, with the Orab boys falling 71-66, in an overtime thriller.

In the girls game the Warriors jumped out to a quick lead over the Orabs and never looked back. They were up 19-6 at the end of the first quarter and led 41-14 at the half. At the end of three it was 60-23 as they went on to win 67-27. Sioux Center got a game high 16 from Jessica Harald and 13 points from Clare Kortlever. Sheldon was led by Sydney Iedema with six points in the contest.

With the win #5 Sioux Center stays unbeaten on the year and in the conference at 5-0. Sheldon slides to 2-5 on the season and 1-5 in the conference.

In the boys game, Sheldon would jump to an early lead and at the end of the first quarter the Orabs led 17-7. The Orabs would extend their lead to 13, making it 33-20 at the midway point. The Orabs would maintain their lead heading into the fourth quarter, 44-34, but Sioux Center would show why they were undefeated, and claw their way back to tie it up with 22 seconds left in the 4th on a Tyus Arends 3 pointer. Heading into OT, the score was knotted up at 57-57. In the extra period, each team would trade baskets throughout, but Sioux Center would come away victorious 71-66.

The Warriors were lead by Matt Van Engen with 17 points, with nine of those coming in OT. The Orab team leaders were Jaden Kleinhesselink with 15 points, as well as Ian Jongewaard with 14.

Sioux Center improves to 5-0 on the season and in the Siouxland. Sheldon is 3-3 for the year and 3-2 in the conference.

The Orabs will play host to West Lyon on Friday for more doubleheader basketball action. Sioux Center will put their unblemished marks on the line against Rock Valley on Friday in Sioux Center.
