Warriors Take Hard-Fought Win From Sheldon Boys

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sioux Center Warrior boys basketball team invaded the O-rena Friday night, and came away with a hard-fought 49-45 win over the Sheldon Orabs in the final regular season contest for both teams.

Scoring started slowly with the score at the end of one 8-6 in favor of Sheldon. By halftime the Warriors had earned a 22-21 advantage. Sioux Center led 34-30 at the end of three before going on to post the win 49-45 over the Orabs.

Sioux Center’s Charlie Dykshorn led all scorers with 22 points on the night, including five 3-point buckets.The only other Sioux Center player in double-figures was Caden Bleeker who came away with 12 points.

The Orabs were led in scoring by Mitchel Wolf who had 19 points, including lighting up the scoreboard with 15-points from beyond the 3-point arc. Wolf was the only Sheldon player in double-figures in the contest.

With the win, Sioux Center finishes the regular season with a 14-6 overall record, and 12-5 in the Siouxland Conference. Sheldon’s loss brings the Orab regular season to a close with a 5-16 record overall, 3-15 in the league.

The next outing for the Sheldon boys will be Monday night when they travel to Rock Valley to face the Braves from Washington High School in Cherokee in a Class 2A tournament play-in game. We’ll have that game for you Monday night on AM-1550 and FM-100.7.

Meanwhile, the Orab girls get their first taste of tournament competition Saturday night (February 9th), when they travel to MOC-Floyd Valley to face the Dutch is a Class 3A  girls tournament opening round contest. That game will also be broadcast on AM-1550 and 100.7-FM, the radio home for Sheldon Orab sports all year-round.
