West Sioux Over Central Lyon 6-1

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The West Sioux Falcons defeated Central Lyon 6-1 in Class 1A District 2 baseball action. The Falcons will play Akron Westfield who downed LeMars Gehlen 6-4 in the other district semifinal Thursday night.

Justin Negaard would get walked in the 2nd inning for the Falcons and would later come into score after Jett Boyer dropped one in the gap in right-center. The Falcons would lead 1-0 after two innings of work. A 5-run 3rd inning helped the Falcons extend their lead 6-0. The highlight of the inning was Jett Boyer clearing the loaded bases with a hit to shallow left field. Central Lyon would get on the board in the bottom of the 5th after Alex Waagmeester scored on a grounder by CJ Roths, but that wouldn’t be enough as West Sioux went on to the 6-1 victory.

Porter Hummel got the win for West Sioux, going 7 innings, walking 4, giving up 2 hits, striking out 11, and adding 1 earned run to his name.

Nic Lutmer took the loss for Central Lyon. In 2 2/3 innings of work, he gave up six hits, walked 3, struck out 2 and let up 5 earned runs.

West Sioux improves to 23-4 on the season, and will play Saturday night in LeMars for the District Title.

Central Lyon finishes their season at 17-8.
