Top ranked Western Christian secured their spot in Thursday’s Class 2A semi finals with a 76-53 win over 8th seed Albia Monday night. The Wolfpack will meet five seed Cascade of Western Dubuque who eliminated fourth seed South Hamilton Jewell 56-40 in the other upper bracket quarterfinal. With the win Cascade improves to 22-3. The upper bracket semi will tip off at 2pm Thursday afternoon.
The Wolfpack never trailed after jumping out to a 14-0 lead to start the contest. At the end of the first quarter the lead was 26-12. At halftime Western led 46-24. At the end of the third quarter the Blue Demons had cut the lead to 11 at 56-45. Western outscored Albia 20-8 in the final eight minutes and put the game away 76-53.
Taylor Feenstra had a huge double-double with a game high 26 points and 20 rebounds. The Wolfpack’s other big man Josh Van Lingen added 19 points. The two were a big reason Western outscored Albia in the paint by a 36-8 margin.
Albia was led by Matt Baker with 19 points and Tanner Wynn with 13. The Blue Demons end the season at 17-8 while the Wolfpack move on to the semifinals at 26-0. We’ll bring you the broadcast on KIWA FM 105.3.
Tickets for the Western Christian boys state tournament game on Thursday, March 13 are on sale at the school office Tuesday the 11th and Wednesday the 12th, until 3:30 pm each day. Cost of the tickets is $8 each.
The third of the area’s three teams at State is MOC Floyd Valley. The Dutch open play in the 3A quarterfinals at 6:35 on Tuesday night. Pregame on KIWA FM begins at 6:30. We’ll stream from the website at www.kiwaradio.com.
The Dutch are the six seed in the 3A tourney and will take a 19-5 mark into the quarterfinals against three seed Central Clinton DeWitt who comes in at 21-3.
