Cedar Rapids, Iowa — Amanda Eekhoff of Western Christian is one of three young women who will be inducted into the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Volleyball Hall of Fame at this year’s State Tournament.
Eekhoff was the catalyst for Western Christian’s run of three-straight state championships from 2001 to 2003.
Eekhoff was a two-time first-team all-state selection. As junior, she hit .392 while averaging 3.5 kills a set. She was especially effective in the 2002 championship match, knocking down 15 kills with six blocks and was captain of the all-tournament team. She averaged 3.5 kills, 1.44 blocks and 1.2 ace serves a set with a hitting percentage of .450 her senior season in 2003. Again, Eekhoff shined in the state championship match with nine kills and eight blocks while earning all-tournament team honors. She was named to the elite all-state team and was the Iowa’s Co-Player of the Year.
Eekhoff played one season at Dordt and averaged 3.8 kills and 1.5 blocks a set while her .325 hitting percentage was a school record. She earned all-region and NAIA honorable mention all-American honors. A gifted athlete, she also averaged 14 points and nearly 11 rebounds a game for the Dordt basketball team.
The trio will be inducted prior to the start of the Class 2A championship match at 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 15.
