Western Christian Advances to Region Softball Semi Finals

Western Christian advanced to the Class 2A Region 1 semi finals with an 11-1 six inning win over visiting Sibley Ocheyedan Wednesday night. The Wolfpack will meet George Little Rock Central Lyon who posted a 6-5 home win over West Lyon in the other upper bracket quarter final.
Western got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top half of the first inning. Lead off hitter Alissa Pollema opened the game with a single and later scored on an rbi single from Kim Kroeze. Jasmine Vander Zwaag reached on a bunt single and later scored to give the Wolfpack a lead they held for the rest of the game.
The Generals scoring came in the bottom of the first inning as Jurnea Harberts singled to left and scored when Charlie Palsrok followed with an rbi single to the gap in left-centerfield.
Western would ad to their run total with a single run in the second followed by a two run third inning, three more in the fifth and another pair in the sixth inning as they put together a 17 hit attack. .
Jasmine Vander Zwaag earned the win going the distance giving up 3 hits. She struck out 5 and did not walk a batter. Jurnea Harberts took the loss. She went the distance striking out 1 and walked 1.
With the win Western Christian improves to 18-7 while the Lady Generals end the season at 8-16.
The semi-finals are set for Friday afternoon at 5:30 with George Little Rock playing host to the Wolfpack in George. The Mustangs advanced to the semi-final round courtesy of a 6-5 win over West Lyon at George Wednesday night.
The lower bracket semi final will match Lawton Bronson a 3-2 winner over Hinton and Woodbury Central who posted a 5-1 win over Westwood. The lower bracket semi will be decided at Moville at 7pm.
