Western Christian Boys Complete Comeback, Advance To State Tournament

western logoOrange City, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack used a big fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Sioux Center Warriors and punch their ticket to the Boys State Tournament.

Sioux Center started off quickly, leading 16 – 10 after one quarter and would carry that momentum in to a 30 – 22 lead at the half.  Sioux Center continued with the same finesse in the third quarter with an answer every time the Wolfpack would try to gain momentum and led after three quarters 50-39.

The Wolfpack began to mount their comeback early in the 4th quarter as senior Taylor Feenstra  would drain back to back three pointers and Western Christian would take their first lead of the contest later on in the quarter. The Wolfpack were able to knock down enough free throws down the stretch to cap off a great fourth quarter by outscoring Sioux Center 30 – 16 to claim a 69 – 66 win and move on to the state tournament next week in Des Moines.

Sioux Center’s Alex Bakker would lead all scorers with 25 along with teammates Chris Borchers with 12 and Steven Kragt with 11. Feenstra led the way for the Wolfpack with 21 points scoring 18 of them in the second half. Also in double figures were Josh Van Lingen with 20 followed by Taylor Miedema with 12.

The Wolfpack have earned the top seed and will open tournament play against 8th-seed Albia Monday, March 10th at 6:35 PM.
