Western Christian Girls on to Region 1 Semifinals With 76-40 Win

Defending State 2A Champion Western Christian opened girl’s 2A Region 1 tournament play with a 76-40 home win over West Lyon Tuesday night in Hull. The top ranked Wolfpack opened a 21-5 first quarter lead and were up 42-19 at half time. At the end of three the lead increased to 69-34 as they went on to their 22nd win of the season.

Western had three players in double figures led by Jamie Gesink with 17 points followed by Summer Jansen with 15 and Kenzie Bousema who knocked down a trio of threes on route to a 12 point night.

West Lyon had two players in double figures led by Katie Groeneweg with 15 points as she connected on a trio of 3-point buckets as well. Alyssa Kock added 10 points.

With the win Western Christian improves to 22-1 on the season while the Wildcats end the year at 7-16.

Western moves on to the region semifinals back at the Western Gym on Friday as they host South O’Brien who won their quarterfinal game Tuesday night 58-44 over Rock Valley. The lower bracket semifinal will have Okoboji at Pocahontas Area. Okoboji advanced with a 61-50 win over North Union. Pocahontas Area moved by Hartley Melvin Sanborn 78-64.
