Western Christian to Play for 2A State Volleyball Title

Western Christian 2Cedar Rapids Iowa — Western Christian will be in search of their 14th State title when they square off against Sumner Fredricksburg Friday afternoon in the Class 2A volleyball championship match. Western advanced with a 3-1 win over West Branch while Sumner Fredricksburg ousted four time defending Champion Dike New Hartford in a 3-2 marathon. The title match is set to get underway at 4:45 Friday afternoon.

Western won on set scores of 25-20, 25-15, 19-25 and 25-23. Sumner Fredricksburg posted set scores of 25-22, 25-13, 22-25, 12-25 and 17-15. Western enteres the title match with a 42-5 season record while Sumner Fredricksburg comes in at 32-3.

In the semi final win against West Branch Kaira Moss totaled 17 kills with Ashtyn Verbeek adding 10. Payton Harmsen was the assists leader with 43. Harmsen was the digs leader as well with 20. Also in double figures was Erica Bousema with 16 and Karson Winterfeld with 11. At the serve recieve line Harmsen led the way going 24-of-25 with 4 ace serves. As a team the Wolfpack went 93-of-97 with 6 aces.
