Wolfpack Advance to Girls Regional Championship Game

western logoTop ranked Western Christian earned a spot in the girls 2A Region 1 Basketball finals with an 86-67 win over South O’Brien Friday night in Hull. The Wolfpack will meet 13th ranked Pocahontas Area who also won at home 79-75 over Okoboji. The Region Championship game is set for Monday night at the Sheldon High School Gym. The winner earns a berth in the State Tournament.

The Wolfpack led 30-10 at the end of the first quarter and 67-32 at halftime before going on to the win.

Four players found double figures led by Jamie Gesink and Kaira Moss with 14 points each. Payton Harmsen and Alissa Pollema hit for 11 each.

South O’Brien got a game high 20 points from Hanna Schueder, 17 from Rachel Struve and 15 from Mikayla Hintz.

In a game that featured a total of 153 points the Wolfpack knocked down eight 3-point buckets while the Wolverines counter with six treys in the contest.

With the win Western Christian improves to 23-1 on the year while South O’Brien ends the year at 19-4 with a thirteen game winning streak coming into Friday night’s game.
