Wolfpack Girls to Play for Region Basketball Title

The 5th ranked Western Christian Girls Basketball Team rolled to a 74-48 win over Sioux Central in the semifinals of the Class 2A Region 1 Tournament Friday night. The Wolfpack will play for the Region Title and a State Tournament berth Monday night when they matchup with 4th ranked Kuemper Catholic in Cherokee. The Knights advanced with a 75-60 win over the Cherokee Braves.
Sioux Central opened with a 7-0 run in the game played at the Sheldon High School Gym. Western answered with a surge of their own to tie the game and then take a lead they never gave back. Western led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter and were up 48-23 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 63-35 in the fourth there was no let up with the final score 74-48.
All five starters hit double figures for the Wolfpack led by a game high 23 points from Brook Wolterstorff. Elissa Jansma hit for 13 with Kim Kroze, Alissa Pollema and Shae De Jager hitting for 10 points each.
The Wolfpack hit an astounding 87 percent from the free throw line including 11-of-11 in the first half and 20-of-23 for the ballgame.
The Rebels were led by Rachel Hamilton with 9 points and Morgan Walker who added 8 points.
With the win Western improves to 21-3 on the season while the Rebels end the year at 20-4.
