Wolthuizen Headed for Southwest Minnesota State

Marshall, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University head men’s basketball coach Brad Bigler announced Wednesday the signing of one junior college and two high school student-athletes to a letters of intent to continue their academic and basketball careers at SMSU. Among those signees were Sheldon Orab Collin Wolthuizen.

Wolthuizen, a 6-foot-8, forward, is a senior at Sheldon High School. A four-year letterwinner, he averaged 12.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game as a senior. He earned all-conference accolades twice in his career and finished recording 131 blocked shots, ranking second in school history. He is also a letterwinner in both football and track.

Bigler said, “Collin comes from a good program in Sheldon. As a sophomore they made a great run in the state tournament. Some good players have come out of that school district. Collin is a player with good size and skill. As he puts on strength, his game will continue to evolve. When he visited campus it was a great fit.”

Also Joining the program for the 2015-16 season will be Minnesota West Worthington Minnesota junior college transfer Derek Buysse from Marshall and Michael Lee from Dawson, Minnesota. Southwest Minnesota State finished the 2014-15 season 12-17 overall, 8-14 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
