An Ireton man is behind bars, accused of having felony inappropriate contact with a teenage girl.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office reports that 30-year-old Chad James Utesch of Ireton was arrested where he works in Ireton.
Utesch has been the assistant wrestling coach at Akron/Westfield Schools.
The school contacted the Akron Police Department and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office when they were notified of possible criminal activity between Utesch and a 17-year-old girl, who is a student at Akron/Westfield. During the investigation it was learned that in 2011, Utesch had several inappropriate contacts with the girl.
Utesch was charged with Sexual Exploitation By A School Employee, a class D felony.
Utesch was transported to the Plymouth County Jail, where bond was set at $7,500.
Three pickups belonging to three Sheldon residents were damaged in a chain-reaction accident on Tuesday, March 27 in Sheldon.
The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 3:25 PM, 75-year-old Raymond Brink of Sheldon was eastbound on Highway 18, near 21st Avenue in a 1992 Ford pickup. Sixteen-year-old Michael Vote of Sheldon was eastbound on 18 in a 1997 Chevy pickup behind Brink. Sixteen-year-old Blake Mulder of Sheldon was also eastbound, behind Vote in a 1999 Chevy pickup.
The first two pickups were slowing to a stop for a road worker flagman who was stopping eastbound traffic. Mulder rear-ended the Vote pickup, which rear-ended the Brink pickup.
Brink’s Ford pickup received $500 damage. Vote’s Chevy pickup received $700 damage. Mulder’s Chevy pickup received $2000 damage.
There were no injuries.
Mulder was ticketed for Failure To Maintain Control.
Two people from Hudson, South Dakota have been charged after they were allegedly caught with cocaine.
The Rock Valley Police Department reports that one of their officers initiated a traffic stop on Highway 18 in the early morning hours Saturday (3/31). The driver was identified as 22-year-old Leonardo Soto Hernandez of Hudson. It was discovered that Soto did not have a valid driver’s license. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as 21-year-old Heather Tearney of Hudson. A voluntary search of both occupants revealed that they were in possession of cocaine, a controlled substance.
Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor, and were transported to the Sioux County Jail in Orange City.
In addition, Soto Hernandez was also charged with operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor, driving with no driver’s license, and no proof of insurance, both simple misdemeanors.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Rock Valley Police Department on the scene.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports they arrested 42-year-old Leroy Raffaelli of Sheldon during a traffic stop on Highway 75, four miles south of Sioux Center.
Raffaelli was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
A Texas woman was arrested on Friday night after she assaulted three people — two of them police officers.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 11:20 PM that night, their deputies were called to assist at a domestic disturbance call at a home a mile east of Rock Valley.
During the investigation it was found that 27-year-old Maria Vargas of Brownsville, TX had assaulted a person at that location. When two Rock Valley Police Officers arrived to assist, they were also assaulted. The Rock Valley Police report that Vargas punched one of the officers several times and spat in the other one’s face.
Vargas was arrested for Simple Assault, a simple misdemeanor, assaulting a peace officer causing bodily injury, an aggravated misdemeanor, assaulting a peace officer without injury, a serious misdemeanor and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.
The Iowa State Patrol also assisted the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and Rock Valley Police.
