Man Found Okay In Rock Valley After Search

On Thursday, March 15, 2012, the Rock Valley Police Department responded to a missing person report.   The missing subject was described as a 61 year old male, and was last seen Thursday morning within the city limits of Rock Valley.

 

Initial reports indicated the person was last seen walking west bound on the Kiwanis public trails in Rock Valley.  The Rock Valley Fire and Ambulance were paged out to assist searching the area.   A canine unit from the Sioux County Sheriff’s Department was also utilized to search the large area.

 

A private citizen, who was alerted to the report of the missing person, located the missing individual near the east side of Rock Valley.  The reported missing person was in good health and did not require medical attention.

 

The Rock Valley Police Department was assisted by the Rock Valley Fire Department, Rock Valley Ambulance, Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Sioux County Conservation Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and private citizens from the area.


Hull 19-Year-Old Goes To Hospital After Accident

A Hull 19-year-old went to the hospital after he was in an accident on Tuesday (3/13).

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:45 PM, 19-year-old David Buyert of Hull was driving a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle northbound on Fillmore Avenue, near the intersection of 300th Street, about a quarter mile northeast of Rock Valley, when he lost control and entered the west ditch.

Buyert went to the Sioux Center hospital the next day for treatment of his injuries.

Buyert was cited for failure to maintain control.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident the next day, Wednesday, the 14th. They were assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department.


Former Sioux County Treasurer’s Employee Facing Theft Charge

A Hull woman, who worked for the Sioux County Treasurer’s Office, was arrested Wednesday on a theft charge. A recent state audit found 39-year-old Wendi Kats of Hull was responsible for missing money totaling $4,252.

She is charged with Second Degree Theft, a Class D Felony.

The criminal charge is the result of an investigation conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the State Auditor’s Office.  The investigation was initiated when it was discovered that funds were missing from the Treasurer’s Office in Sioux County.  According to the State Auditor’s Report, a total of 5 deposits totaling $4,252 in cash and checks were missing between the dates of July 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. The deposits were for fees due to the Iowa Department of Transportation for issuance of driver’s licenses and non-operator identification cards through the Sioux County Treasurer’s office.

Kats was released from the Sioux County Jail on her own recognizance.

Three Osceola County Residents Sentenced On Various Charges

On March 12, 2012, Tyler Bremer, age 19 of Ocheyedan, Iowa, pled guilty to Interference with Official Acts and Minor in Possession, both Simple Misdemeanors. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $390.00, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees. The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of 30 days, with all time suspended, and placed on informal probation to the Magistrate Court for a period of two years.

On March 4, 2012, Tyler Bremer was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for an equipment violation on Nettle Avenue, south of 210th Street. During the course of the stop, Bremer attempted to deceive the Osceola County Deputy to obstruct the investigation and was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.


On March 12, 2012, Devin Maker, age 20 of Sibley, Iowa, pled guilty to Interference with Official Acts and Minor in Possession, both Simple Misdemeanors. On March 1, 2012, Margaret Timmins was stopped on 10th Street West in Sibley, Iowa, for a traffic violation. A check of Timmins’ driving record showed she was Revoked. Timmins was cited for Driving While Revoked.


Hospers Man Arrested On Assault Charge

A Hospers man has been arrested on an assault charge.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that their officers investigated a domestic disturbance on Sunday, March 11 that occurred on 5th Avenue in Hospers. Upon further investigation it is alleged that 32-year-old Mark Bylsma of Hospers, had assaulted a family member.

Bylsma was arrested for Domestic Assault, a serious misdemeanor.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.


Illegal Alien Living In Sanborn Faces Possible Deportation After Traffic Stop

An alleged illegal alien living in Sanborn has been arrested and faces possible deportation following a traffic stop near Melvin.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that in the early morning hours on Monday, (March 12th) an Osceola County Deputy arrested 33-year-old Usmaro Alvarez Diaz of Sanborn on a charge of Failure to Have a Valid Driver’s License; a Simple Misdemeanor.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on Alvarez Diaz and he is currently being held at the Osceola County Jail. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop northwest of Melvin for a moving violation.
