There were no human injuries, but 50 pigs were lost in a crash near Hull on Thursday morning (3/22).
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 5:45 AM, 29-year-old Paul Hibbing of Sutherland was driving a 1987 Peterbilt semi pulling a 2009 Wilson livestock trailer loaded with pigs eastbound on 300th Street.
About four miles northeast of Hull, Hibbing attempted to turn south onto Indian Avenue when the trailer entered the west ditch of Indian Avenue, rolling the trailer and semi onto its side in the ditch.
The Peterbilt sustained about $25,000 in damages. The trailer sustained about $12,000 in damages. Fifty of the 185 pigs were lost. They were valued at about $9,500.
No human injuries were reported.
Hibbing was cited for failure to maintain control.
The Hull Fire Department assisted at the scene.
A Sioux Falls man is dead after an ATV accident near Larchwood on Saturday evening (3/24).
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 6:25 PM, 62-year-old Norman Walter Ranschau of Sioux Falls, was riding his 4-wheeler in the vicinity of A-26 & IA 182.
Ranschau was riding along the shoulder of the road when he lost control and rolled down into the ditch coming to rest against a sign post.
Ranschau was pinned under the 4-wheeler which caused fatal injuries.
A Harris man was arrested on a felony OWI charge on Wednesday.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that they received a call on Wednesday (3/21) about a male needing assistance in Harris. A deputy arrested 52-year-old Milton James Smith of Harris and charged him with Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense, a Class “D” Felony. Smith was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.
A Melvin man was arrested early on Friday.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that they received a 9-1-1 call from Melvin about a domestic disturbance. Following an investigation, an Osceola County deputy arrested 29-year-old Landon Dather of Melvin. Dather was charged with Domestic Assault and Criminal Mischief 5th degree, both Simple Misdemeanors. Dather was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $600 cash bond.
An Alton woman and a Le Mars man were injured in an accident on Thursday (3/22) on the edge of Orange City.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 10:35 AM, 58-year-old Margret Hoffman of Alton was eastbound on Highway 10, on the east edge of Orange City in a 2010 Ford. Fifty-five-year-old Randy Stream of Le Mars was westbound on 10 in a 2006 Peterbilt, owned by GCC Alliance Concrete of Orange City.
Hoffman drove into the path of the truck.
Hoffman was transported to Mercy Medical in Sioux City. Stream was also listed as injured, but according to the report was not transported to a medical facility.
The Orange City Police and Ambulance personnel assisted the trooper at the scene.
