Hawarden Man’s Medical Issue May Have Caused Accident

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Hawarden.

On Monday, June 4, at 7:35 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 10, three miles east of Hawarden.

Fifty-eight-year-old Raymond Miller of Hawarden was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Highway 10 behind Schreur.

Due to an alleged medical issue, Miller’s vehicle collided with the rear of Schreur’s vehicle causing it to enter the north ditch.

Miller was transported to the Hawarden Hospital by the Hawarden Ambulance for treatment of his medical issue. Schreur received minor injuries but refused medical attention.
Schreur’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,500 in damages. Miller’s vehicle sustained approximately $500 in damages.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, the Hawarden Police Department, and the Hawarden Ambulance.


Sheldon Emergency Crews Respond To Three Accidents In The Last Two Days

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon emergency crews were called to a two-car accident at the corner of Highway 18 and Washington Avenue about 2:10 PM Thursday afternoon. Responding were SCAT, Sheldon Fire and Police and EMA. We’ll have the details of the accident when they become available.


A Sheldon man was injured in a car versus motorcycle accident on Wednesday (6/6) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 7:40 PM, 20-year-old Ross Bootsma of Sheldon was eastbound on Highway 18, near Country Club Road in a 1999 Pontiac. Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Johnson of Sheldon was also eastbound on 18 on a 1995 Suzuki motorcycle.

Johnson was slowing down to prepare for a left turn onto Country Club Road. Bootsma was behind the motorcycle and was momentarily distracted. He was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the motorcycle, according to the report.

Johnson was transported to Sanford Sheldon by SCAT.

Bootsma’s Pontiac received $1500 damage. Johnson’s Suzuki received $4000 damage.

Bootsma was charged with failure to maintain control.


A Sanborn woman’s car and a Sheldon man’s car were damaged in an accident on Wednesday (6/6) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 5:00 PM, 62-year-old Lana Van Engen of Sanborn was backing southbound from a private drive onto East Ninth Street, west of Roosevelt Avenue in a 2004 Chevy. Twenty-eight-year-old Dustin Lokhorst of Sheldon was westbound on East Ninth Street in a 1999 BMW.

Lockhorst struck the Van Engen Vehicle.

Van Engen’s Chevy received $1500 damage. Lokhorst’s BMW received $1500 damage.

There were no injuries.

Van Engen was charged with unsafe entry onto roadway.


Sioux County Businesses Burglarized, Strange Items Taken

Sioux County, Iowa — A Hospers business and an Orange City business have been burglarized, and the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s help.

On Tuesday, June 5 at 10:44 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a business burglary that occurred at Greenway and Associates, 3811 450th Street, one quarter mile east of Orange City.

On Wednesday, June 6 at 8:17 a.m., The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a business burglary that occurred at Custom Parts Engineering, 3894 Hospers Drive North in Hospers.

Sometime during the overnight hours, the businesses were entered without force. It is unknown whether the perpetrator(s) are unlocking the door or if a door is being found unlocked.

In both burglaries, 50 gallon barrels containing machine-milled pieces of aluminum and brass scrap metal valued at over $1,000 were taken. Also taken was over $200 in cash, NASCAR replica cars, tokens for a vintage slot machine, and several roles of postage stamps.

Sheldon Police Arrest Three In Separate Cases

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Police report three recent arrests.

On Friday (6/1), they arrested 44-year-old Frank LeFleur of Sioux City for driving while barred.

On Saturday (6/2), the police arrested 19-year-old Abner Coj Lux of Sheldon. He was charged with public intoxication.

On Tuesday (6/5), the police arrested 22-year-old Katerina Griffin of Sheldon. She was charged with domestic abuse assault.


Sheldon Man Arrested For Domestic Abuse

Sheldon, Iowa — On Tuesday, June 5 at 1:34 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a domestic disturbance that occurred at 2936 Lily Avenue, six miles northwest of Sheldon.

Upon further investigation deputies found that Jon Manasil, age 36, of Sheldon had allegedly assaulted a
family member.

Manasil was arrested for domestic assault, a serious misdemeanor.


Vehicles Driven By Hull Woman, Sanborn Man Damaged In Accident Near Doon

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department investigated a two-vehicle accident which occurred in Doon, Iowa at approximately 11:52 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012.

Joy Hurst (age 34) of Hull, Iowa was operating a 2011 Dodge Journey northbound in the 400-block of Gere Avenue. John Pedersen (age 30) of Sanborn, Iowa was operating a 1990 Oldsmobile Delta 88 southbound on Gere Avenue. Pedersen began to make a left turn and then was struck by Hurst’s vehicle.

The 2011 Dodge owned by Hurst received approximately $1500 in damages and the 1990 Oldsmobile owned by Pedersen received approximately $1000 in damages.

Pedersen was cited for Failure to Yield upon Left Turn, a simple misdemeanor.
