Vehicles Driven By Sheldon Man, George Man Damaged In Accident Near Ashton

Ashton, Iowa — On May 31, 2012, at 4:30pm, Matthew Perry, age 34 of Sheldon, Iowa, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina, southbound on Hwy 60, approaching the 210th Street intersection. John Elias, age 58 of George, Iowa, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Classic, westbound from the stop sign in the median of Hwy 60 and 210th Street and did not see Perry’s vehicle, and collided in the intersection. Perry’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,500 damage. Elias’ vehicle sustained approximately $1,800 damage and was given a citation for Failure to Obey Stop Sign. No injuries were reported.

Turning Accident Causes Semi Rollover Near Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — On Thursday, May 31 at 1:05 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at 3283 Dogwood Avenue, three miles southwest of Rock Valley, IA.

Mark Stueven, age 40, from George, IA was driving a 2000 Freightliner truck pulling a 1995 Benson flatbed trailer loaded with corn stalk bales. As Stueven was attempting to turn onto a farm driveway, the trailer tires entered the ditch causing the trailer to roll onto its side.

The truck and trailer sustained $3,000 in damages. The yard and fence, owned by Marion Rus of Rock Valley, sustained approximately $500 in damages.

No injuries were reported.

Stueven was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.

Hospers Woman Arrested On Drug Charges After Anonymous Tip

Hospers, Iowa — A Hospers woman has been arrested on drug charges thanks to an anonymous tip to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, May 30 at about 10:40 AM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into an
anonymous tip reporting illegal drug use at 303 Locust Street in Hospers. The tipster also reported that a
six year old child was living in the residence.

As a result of the investigation, 40-year-old Pauline R. McDonald of Hospers was arrested and charged with
possession of drug paraphernalia a simple misdemeanor and possession of methamphetamine. Since this is
the third possession of drugs violation for McDonald it becomes an enhanced drug charge, a class D felony.

Two Charged With Arson, Burglary After Rural Hartley Fire

Hartley, Iowa — Mobile homes and other property have been destroyed by fire and two people are charged with arson.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Tuesday (5/29), they received a report of a fire at 3283 Yew Avenue near Hartley. The Hartley Fire Department was dispatched along with a Sheriff’s deputy. The Iowa State Fire Marshal from Spencer was dispatched after firefighters arrived on scene.

The fire destroyed some mobile homes and other property.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two people. Charged with Second Degree Arson and Third Degree Burglary were 20-year-old Cassie M. Engelkes of Hartley and 26-year-old Erik G. Sundstrom-Reis of Pocohontas, Iowa.

Bond was set at $10,000 for both charges. The two were transported to the O’Brien County Jail. The latest information available is that Sundstrom-Ries had been released on bond and Engelkes remained in jail.

Both will appear in District Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Sheldon Police Arrest Two, Cover Accident

Sheldon, Iowa — In the latest from Sheldon Police:

The police arrested 28-year-old Anthony Fobb of Sheldon on Monday (5/28). They charged him with one county of Domestic Assault.

On Tuesday (5/29), the police arrested 38-year-old Stacey Waldner and charged her with making a false report.

Both were taken into custody and transported to jail in Primghar.

A car and a crossover-type vehicle, both driven by Sheldon women were damaged in an accident on Wednesday (5/30) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 3:30 PM, 57-year-old Nancy Stangland of Sheldon was westbound on Seventh Street in a 2000 Mercury. Fifty-eight-year-old Mary Gilbert of Sheldon was southbound on Fifth Avenue in a 2002 Buick.

The vehicles met in the uncontrolled intersection and collided, with Gilbert’s vehicle striking Stangland’s in the passenger side.

Stangland’s Mercury received $2000 damage. Gilbert’s Buick received $900 damage.

Stangland was charged with failure to yield to vehicle on the right.
