Texas Woman Arrested Near Rock Valley After She Allegedly Assaulted Peace Officers

A Texas woman was arrested on Friday night after she assaulted three people — two of them police officers.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 11:20 PM that night, their deputies were called to assist at a domestic disturbance call at a home a mile east of Rock Valley.

During the investigation it was found that 27-year-old Maria Vargas of Brownsville, TX had assaulted a person at that location. When two Rock Valley Police Officers arrived to assist, they were also assaulted. The Rock Valley Police report that Vargas punched one of the officers several times and spat in the other one’s face.

Vargas was arrested for Simple Assault, a simple misdemeanor, assaulting a peace officer causing bodily injury, an aggravated misdemeanor, assaulting a peace officer without injury, a serious misdemeanor and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.

The Iowa State Patrol also assisted the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and Rock Valley Police.

Sheldon Man Arrested For Third Offense OWI After Pickup Strikes Number Of Objects Including Parked Car In Sheldon

A Sheldon man was arrested for Third Offense OWI after his pickup struck a number of objects in Sheldon including a parked car on Monday (3/26).

The Sheldon Police Department reports that 45-year-old Kenn Crafton of Sheldon was northbound in the 1200 block of South Third Avenue, when he drove onto the parking on the east side of the road, striking a utility pole and breaking it off at the ground. Crafton then traveled to the Autumn Park parking lot and struck a 2003 GMC Envoy — as his pickup entered the lot. Crafton then drove to Casey’s at Washington and Highway 18, and was stopped and arrested there by Sheldon Police for OWI.

The pickup sustained $4000 damage, the Envoy, owned by Ernest Dillard, sustained $1700 damage. The utility pole was valued at $1000. A metal pole in the Casey’s lot was also struck, causing $50 damage.

Crafton was taken into custody and transported to jail in Primghar.

Spirit Lake 19-year-old Arrested After Authorities Allege She Tried To Break Into RV

A Spirit Lake 19-year-old has been arrested after authorities say she tried to break into an RV.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports they arrested 19-year-old Hayley Wilson of Spirit Lake on Wednesday (3/28). They report she was arrested after being witnessed allegedly attempting to break into a recreational vehicle which was parked on private property.

Wilson is charged with Trespassing, a Simple Misdemeanor; and Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

She was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $2,300 cash bond.

Sioux Falls Man Dies In Plane Crash Near Larchwood; Name Released

A Sioux Falls man is dead after his small plane crashed near Larchwood.

The Lyon county Sheriff’s Office reports that they received a 911 call of an airplane crash at 1:10 PM on Wednesday afternoon (3/28). The Sheriff’s Office reports that it appears that a single seat airplane had attempted to land at the Zangger Airport located at 1351 Airport Road North, near Larchwood, when it instead crashed and flipped.

The pilot of the aircraft, 57-year-old Robert Arthur Akins of Sioux Falls, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Officials report that the Federal Aviation Administration will begin their investigation on Thursday.

Car Driven By Paullina Teen Damaged In Accident

Jacqueline Detrick age 16 of Paullina was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on the gravel road near 5220 420th Street on Tuesday, March 27, about 7:45 PM. Detrick lost control on the loose gravel and began to swerve and ended up going into the north ditch. The vehicle then flipped over onto its top. No injuries were reported.

Detrick was wearing a seatbelt.

Estimated damage to the vehicle was $6,000..

Doon Man Arrested On Obscene Material Charge

A Doon man has been arrested on an obscene material charge.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports their officers executed a search warrant at the apartments located at 402 North 1st Street in Doon on Monday (3/26). Twenty-three-year-old Brandon Sneller lives there.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that Sneller was arrested and charged with Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to a minor, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The charge came as a result of an obscene text message Sneller allegedly sent to an underage female. He was released on bond.
