Doon Man Escapes Injury After Hitting Deer

sioux county sheriff emblemRock Valley, Iowa — A Doon man was uninjured after his pickup struck a deer near Rock Valley on Saturday, April 15th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that just after 3 pm on Saturday, 24-year-old Kyle Van Veldhuizen of Doon was driving a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 southbound on Garfield Avenue, four miles northeast of Rock Valley.  According to the report, Van Veldhuizen struck a deer in the roadway.

The Dodge received $8,000 damage.

No injuries were reported.

Search For Driver Continues After Larchwood Accident

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Larchwood, Iowa — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office released a statement this weekend about a crash that happened last week and is still under investigation.

They report that they responded to a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and A-18, at the very southwest corner of Larchwood. When deputies and emergency responders arrived, it was determined the driver of the vehicle had left the scene, but the vehicle was still there.

They say the vehicle involved in the accident was a 2014 Ford Fusion, which sustained about $9,000 in damages.

The report says the Larchwood Rescue Squad and Larchwood Fire Department responded to the call along with the Sheriff’s Office.

There is no word on the identity of the driver, or if any injuries were sustained.

No Injuries In Collision Near Sioux Center

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookSioux Center, Iowa — No one was injured after two vehicles collided near Sioux Center in the morning hours of Tuesday, April 11th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at 6:45 am on Tuesday, 39-year-old Jeremy Oolman was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 northbound on Harrison Avenue, two miles south of Sioux Center. Twenty-nine-year-old Brent Van Leeuwen of Orange City was driving a 2011 Ford F-350 westbound on 440th Street. According to the report, Oolman stopped for the stop sign at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and 440th Street. Oolman proceeded into the intersection and was struck by Van Leeuwen.

Oolman’s F-150 received $4-thousand damage, with damage to Van Leeuwen’s F-350 estimated at $2-thousand.

No injuries were reported.

Hawarden Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident

Maurice Gradert Accident 4-10-17Maurice, Iowa — A Hawarden woman was taken to a hospital after an accident near Maurice on Monday, April 10,

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 4:00 p.m., 17-year-old Alex Gradert of Ireton was driving a 2012 Chevrolet westbound on Highway 10, about five miles southwest of Sioux Center. They say he was slowing for a vehicle turning ahead of him. The report says 24-year-old Marissa Snedeker of Hawarden was driving a 2015 Kia westbound behind Gradert and rear-ended his vehicle.

The Sioux Center Ambulance Squad took Snedeker to the Sioux Center Health Hospital.

The report says the Gradert Chevy sustained about $5,000 in damage and the Snedeker Kia sustained about $6,500 in damage. Snedeker was cited on a charge of following too closely.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Maurice Fire Department, Maurice Rescue Squad and the Sioux Center Ambulance Squad assisted them with the response to the accident.

No Injuries In Collision Near Sheldon Country Club

O'BrienSheriffSheldon, Iowa — No one was injured in a collision near the Sheldon Country Club on Wednesday, April 5th in Sheldon.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that just after 6:00 pm on Wednesday, 18-year-old Kaitlyn Vote of Sheldon was driving a 2014 Ford Focus westbound, leaving the Sheldon Country Club parking lot. Twenty-seven-year-old Kenton Schroder of Ashton was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram northbound on Nest Avenue. According to the report, Vote was turning south out of the parking lot, did not yield to Schroder and struck the Dodge.

The Ford received $4,000 damage; the Dodge received $500 damage.

No injuries were reported.

Two Vehicles Collide Near Hull

sioux county sheriff emblemHull, Iowa — Two vehicles were damaged and no one was injured in an accident just south of Hull on Friday, April 7th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at 3:10 pm on Friday, 19-year-old Harley Vink of Hull was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on Hickory Avenue, one-half mile south of Hull. Forty-eight-year-old Tracy Weidner of Hull was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Hickory Avenue. According to the report, Vink stopped for oncoming traffic before attempting a left turn onto a residential driveway. Weidner then struck Vink on the roadway.

The Pontiac received $8,000 damage. The Impala received $5,000 damage.

No injuries were reported.
