Lavonne Lupkes, age 75 of Rock Rapids, IA died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Sanford Merrill Hospital Rock Rapids.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Father Jeff Schleisman as celebrant. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

There will be a Vigil service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.



Benjamin “Benjy” Goldhorn

Benjamin “Benjy” Goldhorn, age 34 of Sanborn, IA passed away at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA on Thursday, November 15th.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sanborn.  Rev. Gregg Johnson will be officiating.

Visitation will be at the Sanborn Funeral Home Chapel from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18th with the family present at that time. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, November 19th prior to the memorial service.

Gertrude J. Van Gorp, age 93, of Sheldon and formerly of Hospers, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa

Funeral service will be at 11:00am Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the First Reformed Church in Hospers, Iowa with the Rev. Milton Sikkema ~ officiating. Burial will be in the Hospers Cemetery in Hospers, Iowa on Saturday, November 17, 2012 with a 10:15am Graveside Service.

Kathryn De Boer

Mrs. Kathryn De Boer, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, November 16, 2012, at 10:30am, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Donald Lenderink and the Rev. Robert De Boer will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Friday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will after 4:00pm Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the funeral home.

Kathryn Mae was born on January 21, 1923, in rural Alton, the daughter of Louis J. and Johanna Gertrude (Scholten) Wielenga. She was raised in Orange City, where she graduated from high school, and she went to the Nettleton Business College in Sioux City. She then worked as a secretary for Silent Sioux in Orange City. She was also employed on both the east and west coasts of the United States, partly as a civilian employee of the Army.

On May 15, 1945, she married Homer Wendell De Boer in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where she was a homemaker and assisted her husband in representing Investors Diversified Services. Homer passed away on January 24, 1998, in Orange City, after more than 52 years of marriage.

Mrs. De Boer was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, where she participated in the Booster Club, which later became the Senior Fellowship. She was also active in the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Auxilary and the Orange City Women’s Club, where she served as an officer.

She enjoyed antiquing, cooking, painting, sewing, and spinning.

Survivors include two sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: Keith De Boer, and his wife, Sheila, of Orange City, and their son, Aaron De Boer, his wife, Amy, and their children, Kathryn and John Douwe De Boer of Aurora, Colorado, and Keith and Sheila’s son, Patrick De Boer of Alton; Rita, and her husband, Dan De Jong, of Sioux City, their daughter, Maria De Jong, and her husband, Andrew Mikus of Denver, Colorado , and Dan and Rita’s son, Lewis De Jong of Tucson, Arizona; Alan De Boer, and his wife, Carey, of Orange City, their son Drew De Boer and his daughter Braelyn De Boer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Alan and Carey’s son, Brent De Boer also of Sioux Falls; Karyn, and her husband, Kenneth Cook, and their son, Kolton Cook of Midland, Texas; and daughter-in-law Carol De Boer, and her son, Lance De Boer of Hawarden, Iowa.

She is also survived by a sister, Mary Evans, of Martinez, California; and three sisters-in-law, Theresa Wielenga, Charlotte Meyer Lubben, and Charlene Kloster.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry De Boer, two brothers, Leland and Wilbur Wielenga, and a sister, Harriet Nichols.

Memorials will be directed to the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post.

Marie Loerts age 84 of Ocheyedan, IA died Sunday November 11, 2012 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley with Reverend Terry Simm officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan, IA.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13th from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

Albert Helmers, age 93, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012, at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley. Rev. James Berka and Rev. Ben Rucker officiating.  Burial in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
