Lois Vogel

Mrs. Lois Vogel, age 85, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, October 13, at 1:00pm, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.  The Rev. Paul Bakker will officiate.  Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at the church.  Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Luke Society or the donor’s choice.

 


Henrietta M. Den Hartog

Henrietta M. Den Hartog, age 77, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012 at her residence in Sheldon, Iowa.

Her service will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 12, 2012 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Rev. David Brower ~ Officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

 Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2012 with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon is in charge of arrangements.

Henrietta Margene Den Hartog, the daughter of William and Nettie (Westerman) Poppema was born on October 22, 1934, on a farm near Hospers, Iowa. She grew up on a farm in Lyon County, where she attended country schools and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1952. Following graduation from high school, Henrietta worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Sheldon. She was united in marriage to Eugene Den Hartog on March 16, 1954, in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon; where Henrietta became a full-time mom and homemaker. Henrietta passed away on October 8, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family, reaching the age of 77 years, 11 months and 16 days.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, where she was active in various church activities; including Interfaith luncheons, Bible studies, and teaching Sunday School. She and Gene enjoyed traveling together and she joined him on a number of mission trips to Haiti. Her strong faith in Christ was evident in the way she loved and served those around her.

Henrietta leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Gene of 58 years, and their five children; Sheila and her husband Alan Van Meeteren of Kansas City, MO, Sherri and her husband Dan Van Gorp of Sheldon, IA, Dr. Bryan and his wife Nancy (Rowenhorst) Den Hartog of Rapid City, SD, Lori Strickland, Heidi and her husband Jim McPartland all of Boone, IA. She also leaves 12 loving grandchildren; Tyler (Jenn) Van Meeteren, Bryant (Molly) Van Meeteren, Alissa Van Meeteren and her fiancée, Ty Blau, Adam (Christina) Van Gorp, Aaron Van Gorp, Jordan (Allison) Den Hartog, Addison Den Hartog, Taylor Den Hartog, Danielle Strickland, Mitchell, Mariah and Marcus McPartland; 2 great-grandchildren, Carter Van Gorp and Piper Van Meeteren; a brother, Rodney and his wife, Sandy Poppema of Worthington, MN, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Poppema.


Patricia Rohwer

Patricia Rohwer, 83, of Paullina, Iowa passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Her services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, Iowa. Burial will be in the PrairieView Cemetery in Paullina

Visitation will be after 3 P.M.Friday, October 12, 2012 with family present from 5 – 7 P.M. at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina, Iowa.


Leonard W. Richter

Leonard W. Richter, 86, of Germantown, Iowa passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Orange City Area Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa with Rev. Donald Erickson ~ officiating. Burial will be at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Germantown.

Visitation will be after 3 P.M. Monday, October 8, 2012 with family present from 5-7 P.M. at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.


Vernon Kiel

Mr. Vernon Kiel, age 77, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012, at his residence.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, October 9, at 1:00 pm, at the New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeffrey Whitt and the Rev. Dr. John Hartog III will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00 pm on Monday, with the family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.


Corrynn A. Thompson

Corrynn A. Thompson, age 96, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, Iowa.

Her services will be Monday, October 8, 2012 at 2:00pm at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Sanborn, Iowa with Fr. Tim Hogan ~ officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation with the family present will be Monday, October 8, 2012 from 1:00pm until the time of service at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Sanborn, Iowa. The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Corrynn Adaline Thompson was born in Alvord, IA on September 6, 1916, the daughter of Dallas and Elizabeth (Levins) Thompson. After attending grade and high school in Alvord, Corrynn went to Iowa State Teacher’s College (now UNI) where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught in the rural schools of Lyon County, IA. During World War II, and after studying at St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO, she became a civilian instructor at the Army Air Force Training Command in Sioux Falls, SD, teaching International Morse Code and Tactical Procedure – the practice of sending war messages using code. Following the war, Corrynn was a primary grade teacher in Archer, Everly, Sibley and St. Patrick School, Sheldon. She passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, Iowa, reaching the age of 96 years and 28 days.

Since 1947, Corrynn has been a member of both St. Patrick Parish, Sheldon and St. Patrick guild. She was also an adopted member of St. Cecelia Parish, Sanborn, IA.

Corrynn is survived by her brother, Adrian “Tommy” Thompson of Lake Elmo, Minnesota; four nieces, Maureen, Margaret, Yvonne “Vonnie” Anderson all of Sheldon and Teri Gene Selden; a nephew, Greg Thompson of Mahtomedi, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, La Vohne and Grace Thompson and Myva (Thompson) Anderson; her brother-in-law, M.F. “Mike” Anderson; an infant brother, Bernard John; her sister-in-law, Verle Thompson and a niece, Sandy Thompson.
