New Sports Complex

Date posted - June 12, 2014

It’s good to see that the Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education is going to discuss the new sports complex. I certainly hope that they discuss the weeds that are going to seed. I understand that the City is going around and going to send nuisance letters to owners who have too many uncontrolled weeds and things of that nature. Have they sent one to themselves? It’s my understanding that they own 1/2 of that complex.

And while were talking about the sports complex, Mr. Spears promised that there would be a sidewalk on the north side near the highway, which still is not shown in the plans. Oh that’s right, the city owns 1/2 of the complex so their probably going to exempt this project, even though they make the general public put in the sidewalks.

Just wondering what the School Board will do?

Interesting comment on sidewalks, but what is the point! On the north side of town we had to install sidewalks to basically no where and very few walk on them but I must say the road has many more people pushing stroller’s and people walking on the road not the sidewalks!
I personally think the policy of sidewalks could be improved. Some other city’s have a great vision, they build their roads with sidewalk/bike access on the sides of the roads they build. Granted there may be some locations where a sidewalk will be needed because of heavy traffic, but overall maybe a new vision would be possibly more practical in new residential divisions.

Rainbow, what happens with that idea in the Winter when the snowplows remove the snow from the streets onto the side of the road?

Have seen these results in some of the newer area’s of Orange City, near the hospital, they just plow the road and path.

      Rainbow,
A couple of interesting points: 1. you HAD to install sidewalks.
      2. It might be a little more hazardous for kids to walk on Highway 18.
      3. Of course, they could walk on the sidewalk to the corner of Highway 18 and 19th Street, then cross at the light to walk on the sidewalk that goes all the way out to HyVee, and then they could dodge cars as they cross Highway 18 to get to the Middle School sidewalk that ends at the North end of the Middle School on 23rd Ave. Seems really safe that way.

City did mow the weeds down in that field. The lawn mowing crew for the high school did mow the ditch this week. And I beleive they are letting out bids here shortly for the complex. Gotta work together to achieve greatness! Takes time!
