Thank you Sheldon

I want to thank everyone one in Sheldon for the opportunity to serve the city of Sheldon. Over the years we have gotten a lot of things done. New businesses, new housing, and other things that we were lacking. We also kept dropping our levy rate, but the state and county kept raiseing the valuations which I did not like. Our tax base has grown a lot, helping to keep our taxes down.
I still would like to see more growth in people for our schools to grow, and more industry and business. I want to say thank you to our city managers and department heads for the job that they have done over the years. They have been instrumental in keeping our budget in the black every year with surpluses.
I will meet with the new council person, and bring him up to speed on everthing, so he can have some idea as to what is going on. It is surprising how much a person has to learn before he can even start making those decisions. One example is tiff use. IT ALLOWS US TO BORROW MONEY AT A LOWER INTEREST RATE AND A SHORTER PERIOD OF TIME. The city is paying off its debt at almost 1 million dollars a year. Thanks again, and I hope that I have served Sheldon well.
Dave Popkes, Sheldon City Councilman
