I enjoy reading all the posts on “My Two Cents” even though I rarely comment. However, I have to say that I find it really telling of our mindset as a society today that only one person made the effort to thank VNU for the fireworks and family festivities, and that 6 days later I am the first person to comment on the post. I used to work there and I know how much time and effort goes into the event. I am not saying we should not discuss and problem-solve issues, whether they are minor or major ones, but it is a sad thing, in my opinion, that so rarely do we point out the good around us. Why is it so much easier, and so much more satisfying, to bicker and complain? That is a change we need to make within ourselves. So thank you to all the VNU staff for all your hard work. We watched from out in the country this year, like dozens and dozens of others parked around us, and I am thankful we have the opportunity in small-town Iowa to still enjoy a great show. (And KIWA – we always have you in the background as we watch the fireworks display; though I love all your music I really missed the Patriotic-themed songs you usually play during the show… I need my Neil Diamond’s “Coming to America” during that finale! Maybe next year?) :)
