Harvest Near Completion

Northwest, Iowa — The end of the 2020 harvest season draws closer as the days go by, and residents are probably wondering about just how close it is.

Iowa State Agronomist, Joel DeJong, says the harvest is near completion.

(as said) “I would say we’re probably at 99%,” Explains DeJong, “of the corn crop, soybeans are done, 99% on the corn crop. there’s still some fall fieldwork that would be nice to get done, but I think we got the harvest pretty well wrapped up.”

This 2020 harvest season has been a rocky one for farmers in Iowa, however, DeJong still says that it was a successful year for farmers.

(as said) “Yeah, I think it was a success, we didn’t set yield records as a whole, but considering lack of rainfall yields were, probably, better than most people expected. The crop came out of the field dry so not a lot of investment in fuel to dry the crop, plus we got it done on time. so all of those were positive.”

DeJong also wants residents to know that while harvest may be near completion, there will still be some activity from farm equipment, like hauling manure, fertilizer still being applied, cleaning up of the fall tillage, and many corn-stock bails that need to be picked up.
