IARN — The president of the Iowa Corn Growers Association is calling on President Biden to push biofuels as a solution to rising gas prices across the country.
Vinton farmer Lance Lillibridge tells IARN that biofuels and year-round E15 would counter rising gas prices and save American consumers money at the pump.
“We really need to get everyone talking to their legislators about biofuels,” said Lillibridge. “With the energy situation we have right now, biofuels is the answer. Biofuels can lessen the price at the pump, and we can decarbonize with biofuels. We have the opportunity to cut our carbon footprint by 40% in Iowa alone by using biofuels and using carbon capture technology at our ethanol plants. That’s a big deal. We really need to get on board with that. It will be good for the Iowa farmer, the American farmer and it will be good for every single American.”
“We’ve got an administration right now that has the ability with the stroke of a pen to put some legislation in place that would put more biofuel in the tank,” said Lillibridge. “The administration is calling on other countries and they are not answering the phone. President Biden: if you call me, I will answer the phone. The Midwest and the American farmer will solve this problem when it comes to energy prices.”
Lillibridge adds Iowa Corn continues to lobby for year-round E15, which is often marketed as Unleaded 88.
“Our senators in Iowa – Ernst and Grassley – are absolutely champions when it comes to biofuels. We sure appreciate the (E15) legislation that Ernst put forward here just this past week. And even our congressmen and women in Iowa and surrounding states, there’s huge bipartisan support for legislation right now to put E15 in the tank year-round.”
Lillibridge made his comments to the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network at the 2022 Commodity Classic in New Orleans.
