IARN — Iowa farmers and ag professionals will be able to take part in a virtual field day webinar series later this month, hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in conjunction with the Southeast Iowa Agricultural Research Association.
According to ISU Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Rebecca Vittetoe, the spring field day is typically held in person at the Iowa State Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm in Crawfordsville. However, concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic caused them to alter plans this year.
“What we are going to do is each day we will feature a different topic,” Vittetoe said. “First thing in the morning folks can join us and get information on a different topic. That will be from June 23rd through June 26th. We will keep them to pretty short discussions because we know people have a lot going on. It will be from 8 to 8:30 and there will be an opportunity to ask the different presenters questions as well.”
Topics for the four-day series include a Southeast Iowa Research farm and crop update, utilizing tile drainage to better manage nitrogen and improve corn yields, late season field scouting with UAV’s, and multi-tactic approaches to managing herbicide resistance. Vittetoe says the webinar will be hosted on Zoom Video Conferencing. Participants can join through their web browser, mobile phone, or tablet.
“There is no cost to participate in our field day,” Vittetoe said. “We are asking that people register so that way they get the link and instructions on how to join. If they just go to www.aep.iastate.edu/serf – that will take them to the registration page. They just have to put in their contact information so we can send them the link on how to join.”
