Legislation Looks To Ease Burden On Livestock Haulers

IABRN — Haulers have certain rules they must follow. Rules for time on the road, and time to rest. This is designed to help cut down on many factors that contribute to driver fatigue. For livestock haulers, if you will pardon the pun, it is a different beast. Their cargoes are alive. Animals cannot endure just sitting in less than ideal weather conditions or in the small spaces meant for temporary transport. New legislation has been introduced to help alleviate the risk and strain for haulers and livestock owners.

Congresswoman Angie Craig (D-MN 2nd) and Representative Lloyd Smucker (R-PA 11th) have introduced a bipartisan bill called “The Responsible & Efficient Agriculture Destination Act (TREAD). Congresswoman Craig talks about the strain facing livestock haulers, and how this legislation will be able to help them.
