Planting Nearly Complete In Northwest Iowa

Northwest Iowa — Spring planting got under way in earnest three weeks ago, and since that time great progress has been made, according to Iowa State University Extension Field Specialist Joel De Jong.

Now that most of the crop is in the ground, we saw some rain Friday and there is more forecast for parts of next week. De Jong says he hopes the forecast is accurate.

And speaking of pre-planting subsoil moisture, De Jong says he found some of the levels surprising when considering the drought the area had been going through.

De Jong covers nine counties here in northwest Iowa, including O’Brien, Osceola, Lyon, Sioux, Plymouth, Cherokee, Woodbury, Ida and Monona Counties.
