Road, Rail and River Infrastructure Needs Attention

Statewide Iowa — (Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network) — Soybean harvest is finished. Corn harvest is now down to about eight-percent left in southwest and northeast Iowa, but less in other areas.

With grain in storage, what is the next move? If we were not able to export two-thirds of our soybean production, it would be worth far less.

There has been little action in improving the infrastructure – roads, rail and river – which is the pathway to processing and export.

Ken Root of the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network spoke with Mike Steenhoek, the executive director of the Soy Transportation Coalition, and gave him an opportunity to define the problems, concerns and hopes for keeping United States farmers competitive in a dynamic and challenging world market.
