Shipping reform has further options

IARN — The supply chain is suffering in this country and around the globe. There were many concerns raised about the situation we have in our ports, especially in the Pacific. Containers have been heading across the ocean empty while American goods are waiting to be shipped.

The Ocean Shipping Reform Act was signed into law last month and is just the start to a series of bills aimed at fixing the issues we are seeing in our ports. There are at least two more bills in the works to help further address some of the abuses by carrier companies and get products moving in a commonsense way.

California Democratic Representative John Garamendi was one of the primary sponsors of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act. He recently spoke at Agri-Pulse’s Western Food and Ag Issues Summit. He talks about more bills on the table that would help add some more muscle to the efforts to reform the shipping industry.
