Ethel M. DeBuhr

Ethel M. DeBuhr, age 85 of Rock Rapids, IA died on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Rock Rapids Health Care Centre.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, April 19th at the Congregational United Church of Christ of Rock Rapids. Burial will follow at Bethel Reformed Cemetery at rural Little Rock, IA.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 18th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Ethel DeBuhr was born January 20, 1928 near Maple Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Nels and Mildred (Lewis) Christensen. She attended schools in Estherville, IA, Graettinger, IA and Ellsworth, MN, where she graduated in 1946.

She was married to Herman DeBuhr on September 18, 1946. They lived in Rock Rapids, IA and raised four children. She was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Rock Rapids. She worked at Hess Café for many years and for Arliss Schoulten at the Brass Lantern. She enjoyed sewing, baking, bowling, playing cards, camping and traveling but mostly spending time with family. On August 27, 1983 Ethel’s husband, Herman died after thirty-six years of marriage. Ethel retired in 1990 but remained active with family and community activities.

In March of 2013 Ethel entered the Rock Rapids Health Care Centre, where she remained until this past Tuesday, April 16, 2013 when she died at the age of 85.

She is survived by four children, Ron (wife Sue) DeBuhr of Sioux Falls, SD, Larry DeBuhr of Chicago, IL, Jean Eggers of Sioux Falls, SD, Richard (wife Lori) DeBuhr, of Rock Rapids, IA; eight grandchildren, Renee Ruiz, Derek DeBuhr, Martha (husband Darren) Burkett, Jackson (wife Theresa) DeBuhr, Michael Gustafson, Melissa (husband Joe) Winstead, Tracy (husband Eric) Breuer, Michelle Kannegieter and step-grandson, Sean (wife Brenda) Sosa; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Doris Dirks of LeClaire, IA; sister-in-law, Amanda Becker of Rock Rapids, IA; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Ruth Van Aartsen of Rock Rapids, IA; special friend, Dick Visker; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Harry Randolph; her husband, Herman DeBuhr; three brothers; one sister; son-in-law, Terry Eggers; and one grandson, Chris Kannegieter.

 


Donna Joyce Boogerd

Donna “Joyce” Boogerd, age 83, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center in Sibley, Iowa

Funeral will be 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Troy Van Beek ~ officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, Iowa, with a 1:45pm Graveside Service.

Visitation will be Monday, April 15, 2013 after 2:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Donna “Joyce” Boogerd, the daughter of Jess and Ruth (Hays) Verhoef, was born June 20, 1929 in Prairie View, Kansas. She received her education and graduated from Prairie View High School in 1947. She attended Central College for one year and then attended Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa, where she graduated in September, 1952. Joyce was united in marriage to Gerrit “Gary” R. Boogerd on June 6, 1952 in Pella, Iowa. Her nursing career was always an important part of her life where ever they lived. She began her nursing career in Holland, Michigan while Gary attended Western Theological Seminary. They served in the mission field for the Reformed Church of America in the hills of Kentucky where Joyce was a nurse and midwife. Her career also included hospital nursing where surgery was her favorite. She served as Director of Nursing at Osceola Community Hospital and on the nursing staff at Village Northwest Unlimited. She completed her career as Director of Nursing at Parkview Manor in Ellsworth Minnesota. Gary and Joyce enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 9 years. In 2001, they moved from their home of 31 years in Little Rock to Sheldon, Iowa. Gary preceded her in death on April 4, 2010. Joyce remained in her home until August, 2010 before moving to the Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center in Sibley, Iowa where she passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 reaching the age of 83 years, 9 months and 24 days.

She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. She was also a member of the Little Rock American Legion Auxiliary and the Martha Rachel Circle of the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock. Joyce enjoyed knitting, word and jigsaw puzzles, plants, journaling, making Christmas ornaments for family, and collecting antiques.

Joyce’s life will be cherished by her four daughters and their spouses: Ruth and David Hobson of Lake Park, Iowa; Laurie and Russ Forbes of Lone Tree, Iowa; Rebecca and Butch Anderson of Sheldon; Lois and Kenny Schilling of Little Rock, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a sister and her husband, Avis and Ron Moulton of California; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; two children, Jean Boogerd in 2003 and John Boogerd in 2005; her parents and a brother, Calvin Verhoef.

STREIT, Leonard picLeonard N Streit age 87 of Sibley, IA died Friday, April 12, 2013 at Country View Manor Nursing Home in Sibley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, with Father Tim Hogan as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Ashton, IA.

Visitation will be Monday, April 15th from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. There will be a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m.


Lois Krull

Lois Krull, age 78 of George, IA died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George with Rev. Lorna Halaas officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 14th from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Lois Regina (Feldman) Krull was born January 18, 1935 the daughter of Reinhardt and Louisa (Vaupel) Feldman near Ashton, IA. She graduated from the George Community School in 1953. In 1955, she was united in marriage to Albertus H. Krull, Jr. They made their home in rural George where she was a loving mother and homemaker until her children graduated from school. She then worked at the George Good Samaritan Center for twenty years. Albertus passed away in 1993. She then moved into George until moving to the George Good Samaritan Center in March of 2013. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She also loved the times with her grandchildren.

She is survived by six children, Carla McCulloch and husband, Tom of BellaVista, AR; Byron Krull and wife, Carol of George, IA; Linda Vanden Bosch and husband, Larry of Clarinda, IA; Dennis Krull and wife Teresa of Sioux Falls, SD; Douglas Krull and wife, Pam of George, IA and Jill Cole and husband, Jeff of Westminster, CO. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Kim and Kris Krull, Shey Krull, Kelsie and Nicholas Krull, Allyssa, Megan and Rebecca Krull, and Erin, Dane and Zoe Cole: four sisters, Pearl Wolf of Sheldon, IA; Lorraine (Alvin) Henning of Moville, IA; Myrna Heronemus of Ashton, IA; and Iva Jean Ott of Davenport, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albertus; sister, Velma Winter; brother, Marvin Feldman and four brothers-in-law, Bob Wolf, Ken Winter, Elmer Heronemus and Jerry Ott.


Eleanor Brink

Mrs. Eleanor Brink, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, April 11, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City.  The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate.  Interment will be prior to the service at the Sherman Township Cemetery near Maurice.  There will be a prayer service on Thursday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Wednesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.


Clifton A. Penning

Clifton “Clif” A. Penning, age 84 of Rock Rapids, IA died on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, April 8th at the Christian Church (Disciples) in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Carolyn Salberg officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids, with full military honors.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 7th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.
