Pair Arrested For String Of Burglaries

Hawarden, Iowa —  Two Hawarden men were jailed in connection with a string of burglaries in and around Hawarden Tuesday.  Hawarden Police identify the pair as 18-year old Kyle James Bottorf and 22-year old Roy Lee McDermott, both of Hawarden.

handcuffs - subject inAccording to Hawarden Police,  Tuesday, at approximately 3:20 a.m., an Officer of the Hawarden Police Department was checking businesses when he came across a burglary in progress at a business in the outlying Hawarden area. Assistance from additional officers of the Hawarden Police Department and Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, including their K-9, were called.  Police say they discovered that someone had broken a window and entered an office building, but were able to get out of the building before additional officers arrived on the scene.

Using evidence left at the scene officers say they were able to track down Bottorff and McDermott at their respective apartments in Hawarden. Further investigation found that Bottorff was allegedly involved in two additional burglaries in Hawarden earlier in the night, while McDermott was allegedly involved in one of the burglaries in Hawarden with Bottorff, and that Bottorff was allegedly involved in two previous burglaries in and around Hawarden.

According to authorities, Bottorff was charged by Hawarden Police with 3 counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree, 2 counts of Theft in the 2nd Degree, 1 count of Theft in the 4th Degree, and Possession of Marijuana. Additionally the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office charged Bottorff with 2 counts of Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Possession of Stolen Property, Theft in the 2nd Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the 4th/5th degree. Bottorff was reportedly taken to the Sioux County Jail on an $11,000.00 bond.

Police say McDermott was charged by the Hawarden Police Department with Burglary in the 3rd degree, Theft in the 2nd Degree, and Possession of Marijuana. Additionally the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office charged him with Burglary in the 3rd degree and Possession of Stolen Property. Police say McDermott was also transported to the Sioux County Jail on a $10,000.00 bond.

Judith “Judy” Elin Sheffield, age 77 of Boyden, Iowa passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Her service will be at 11:00am Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, Iowa with Chaplain Dennis Sohl Officiating

Burial of the ashes will be at 10:15 A.M. Saturday, January 3. 2015 in the Sheridan Cemetery in Boyden, Iowa

Visitation will be after the service with the family present on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Demco Building in Boyden, Iowa

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Northwest Iowa Area Health System in Orange City, Iowa

Burdelle “Bud” Krikke

Bud KrikkeBurdelle “Bud” Krikke, age 78 of Sanborn, passed away at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn on Saturday, December 27, 2014.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, December 31st at 11:30 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn, with Rev. Al Van Dellen will be officiating. Burial will be held at Roseland Cemetery near Sanborn, IA at 10:45 a.m.  on Wednesday.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 30th  from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Sanborn Funeral Home in Sanborn, with visitation with the family present from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31st at the Church.

The Sanborn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for 78 year-old Burdelle “Bud” Krikke of Sanborn.

Roger Klaahsen, age 78 of George, IA died Friday, December 26, 2014, at Good Samaritan Center in George, IA, with his loving family by his side.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 30th at American Reformed Church in Hull, IA, with Rev. Katie Van Veldhuizen officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA.

Visitation will be Monday, December 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the American Reformed Church in Hull, IA, and one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday morning.

Mr. Peter Karssen, age 87, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014, at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, December 30, at 11:00 am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday, at 9:45 am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

 Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the funeral home.
